The prototype QuickLap canoe was built during the winter of 1996, and the construction method was introduced during a presentation on CNC cutting for small boat shops at the Spring 1997 meeting of the Chesapeake chapter of the Society of Boat and Yacht Designers.

The following Spring this boat was built for Ted Hall, the designer of the ShopBot, for his mother-in-law to use on the lakes of Michigan.
